WPA 2008: Denver

July 16, 2008 – 9:45 am

The WPA conference was especially productive.  Later this week, I want to use this blog as a space to share the many great ideas that came from the conference.

We discussed CompPile, CompFAQs, the Research Exchange,  WAC Clearinghouse, and Digital WPA in our Roundtable discussion:

“How can we better document, preserve, protect, and share our learning?”

A reminder that the CommentPress blog space is still open for comments and participation.

Writing Center Journal

July 16, 2008 – 9:43 am

I uploaded entries for WCJ through 2005.  I plan to complete indexing for WCJ and for WLN in time for the IWCA summer workshop next week.  I’ll announce that here.

Visible Language

July 6, 2008 – 12:57 pm

Rich has indexed and uploaded entries for Visible Language from 2000-2007.  With our profession’s current interest in visual rhetoric and new media, this journal is one that might interest a volunteer to maintain?

Journal List updated

July 6, 2008 – 12:57 pm

One of the important features @ CompPile is our list of field-related journals.  We now list 306 journals as relevant for CompPile users.  CompPile does not yet index all 306, but we have that as a goal.

The list of journals has been moved to the new server, and, in fact, has become two lists.  You can see an alphabetical list of journals or you can see journals sorted into one of the 19 “scholarly areas” we identified (as a way to recruit “Associates.”)

From either list, you can volunteer (where needed) to help index, to help maintain and update indexing, and / or to add search terms.

Check it out (and let us know of any glitches or usability issues <comppile@gmail.org>).

From CompPile’s home page, follow the “Journals” link.  Or from the top navigation bar, use the “Coverage” menu.

CompReviews

July 4, 2008 – 1:28 pm

The CompReviews section of CompPile now includes 10 new reviews.  You’ll note that several of them are reviews for single essays in edited collections, which is a positive development, I think.

To contribute a review for any item in CompPile, use the “review” link in the left column.  The review interface is functional, but not yet finished (design, etc.).

WPA: now current to issue 31.1/2

July 4, 2008 – 1:24 pm

In preparation for the WPA conference next week, I just finished indexing and uploading 132 entries for WPA: Writing Program Administration.  That represents all issues from 2000-2007.  Entries deserve more attention to search terms, and for one issue, I don’t have ending page numbers.

To entries for the full run of the WPA journal, type “writing program administration” (without quotation marks) in the journal search field.

Site work

July 1, 2008 – 8:42 pm

Not sure who’s reading this, but I want to post this note anyway.

I’m revising the CompReview and Recent Books sections as I move them from the old site to the new server.  So users might find some “unfinished” pages that function but that aren’t yet “templated” and thus are missing navigation, etc.  I’m not activating any pages that don’t “function” as they should.  So if users add reviews now, they will be safe.

WAC Journals

July 1, 2008 – 11:57 am

Thanks to Mike Palmquist and Justin Jory (WAC Clearinghouse), CompPile now has a complete index of Academic.Writing, Language and Learning across the Disciplines (LLAD), and Across the Disciplines (ATD).  These entries include links to the online versions of the articles and annotations.

New online, international Journal of Writing Research

June 24, 2008 – 6:55 am

The first issue of the new online, international Journal of Writing Research is now indexed in CompPile.  We will add this to the list of journals that we index regularly.

Teaching English in the Two-Year College

June 17, 2008 – 6:51 pm

TETYC is now indexed through its recent 2008 issues.  This is an important upload for the 2000+ initiative.  We now have an arrangement with the editorial staff at TETYC to help us keep the entries updated.
