I personally did not mind taking the TAAS test it was fairly simple
and can help speed a students way towards college. Whether the person had high enough
scores to be exempt from the TASP or not it still allowed the student to be
ready to take that test. It also helped to see how far the student has came in
terms of an academic level and determines whether or not the student is ready
to move on or to stay and continue their teachings in their current grade. The
only point I did not like about the test was the length and how it take up
almost all of the day.

I personally do not like the idea of students being required to pass
the TAAS test in order to graduate high school. People often think why
shouldn't students be required to take it the test is easy and if the students
are not able to do the simple problems on the TAAS then they need to stay in
school. I however do not agree with this idea. There are students that can not
pass the TAAS for reasons other than they are not capable. There are students
that are not good at taking tests and the score they receive on their test does
not reflect what they have learned. Students on the day of the test may have
situations on the minds may not be feeling well they may have stayed out late
the night before any of these could result in a score that does not truely
indicate the capablitites of the student. Other students have reading
disablities and for them the TAAS test is much more difficult. My brother has a
reading disability that went unknown of many years and for a long time he never
passed the TAAS test he soon will be taking the test that determines whether or
not he will graduate. Even if he is not able to pass the test he is none the
less a very smart and intelligent person capable of going to college and doing
the work required. Other larger issues are that not all schools have the same
level of education. Wealthier districts tend to provide better educations of
the students that reside there. Therefore it is not fair to expect students all
of the state to take the same test. For these many reasons I do not believe
that the TAAS test should be required to graduate from high school.

I personally think that the TAAS was an easy test when I took it in
High School. Ever since the beginning of my sophomore year that is all we
focused on and I was tired of it. It seemed really easy to me and I just wanted
to do something else with that time we had. I also got tired of my school
always wanting to be the best and it pressured some of the students instead of
helping them. I was glad when the test came around because I just wanted it to
be over with and it was. I thought it was easy so I don't understand why the
teachers focused so much on it. It was a matter of having common sense or not.
Really if you didn't know that stuff by then you were way behind. the test was
easy that's my opinion. I don't see why so many students fail it.

I personally thought the TAAS is an excellent test for high school
students. It prepared me for upper lever high school english. I prepared by
taking some prep classes during my english classes.

I personaly think that the TAAS is a waste of four days of class time
while everyone else is sleeping in late or going to the beach. I also think why
did we have to take it I mean we take all differnet kinds of test that also
have no meaning. I know we had to pass that test to get out of high school and
then we have to take another one to get in College. Its dumb we student don't
need to be under so much preassure. Its bad enough that we are stressing over
our grades more less another TEST!

i personaly think that the TAAS test should be given because of the
fact that no favortism can be shown. if you were to let the schools do the
testing and grading then you would be bias in grading and all of the material
will have been changed and we will not find a common ground and people will
learn all different things. people may disagree with me and my view but I still
feel that this is a positive test that informs the leaders of this country what
the future leaders of tommorrow are learning and how this can be altered to
make sure it is a informed and well educated society of the future.

I really do not know weather the tass is benaficel or not. When I took
it everybody had no problem taking it. All of my friends aced it so I don't
think that it really matters anyway.

I really don't mind standard tests but I do belive though that Texas
places far to much on these tests. I do not belive that there needs to be as
much testing exspecialy in middle school grades in high school iti s different
but I do not believe that there is a need for the TASP many us have already
taken the sat of act I believe that everything should just be based on that
something that is nation wide not just in the state of texas thats kinda dumb
if we every wanted to transfer out of state it would not count for anything
toward another college just one in texas. So I do not like it.

I really hated the TAAS because it was really easy and way too long. I
thought it was pointless and we spent way too much class time preparing for
something that wasn't hard at all! I think that they should either make it
harder like college or not have it at all. It didn't prepare me for anything or
teach me anything. I think they should just get rid of it all together and just
spend more time on something that is really going to matter in the long run.

I really hated the TAAS test. I didn't see the point of taking it. I
had just moved to Texas with about two months left of my junior year, and the
counselors were like “oh, by the way, you have to take this test and pass or
you don't graduate.” Why? I had practically straight A's, I was envolved in
sports I was never really in trouble. It just seemed a little superfluous. The
test doesn't really prove anything. My other schools had similar tests but they
didn't affect our grade and didn't affect our graduation. They were just as big
a joke as the TAAS. Teachers are teaching what's on the test which in that case
we're not learning. We're just memorizing.
