i hated my english class in 10th grade cause all we would do is take
practice test. I do have to admit that it did help me. some of us students even
had to take a TAAS course.

I hated TAAS. I think it was a waste of time. I always scored real
well on every part except for the reading. It was mainly the summarization and
finding the main idea that got on my nerves. The math part was really easy
though. I almost always scored perfect on it. I hated it being timed though. I
am a fast worker and I was always done while everyone else was still working.
This gave me time for my mind to wander off and for me to get sidetracked. Then
I wasn't concentrating when it was time for me to take the next part. We always
took it in a freezing cold auditorium. I was always uncomfortable and ended up
sitting by someone who either smelled real bad or kept on making funny noises.

I hated taking the TAAS test! All we did for like 7 years was to take
the practice taking the TAAS. We learned how to pass it and what too look for.
I never felt it was useful in the first place. I don't think it helped me in
any way. I slept during most of it anyway it was so easy after taking the same
basic test for 7 years that all I did was sleep when I finished early. I never
failed any of the TAAS tests all the practice gave us an insight as to what
would be on future tests. It was also way to easy I think that if it had been
harder I may have been a better learner and have adapted better study skills. I
know that now that I am in college it is hard for me to study because it has
always been so easy and I don't know how to study. It was never really
necessary. I always thought that 'if I can pass the TAAS without studying then
everything else should work the same.' I feel the TAAS was a waste of learning
time. So much more could have been accomplished while we were taking the
Practice TAAS. Instead of learning the material we were learning the test.
Standardized tests aren't bad if they actually serve a purpose. To show how
much a person has actually learned and where they stand in the learning
community not about how well they know the test. The students need to be able
to think for themselves!

I hated taking the TAAS test. There were three different section to
the test so we did a section a day. We would start on the test at nine and
finish at twelve. Most people would finish the test at ten thirty and then we
would have to sit there for the other hour and a half and do nothing. It was
one of the most boring tests I have ever taken.

I hated the TAAS test. It made me feel like a child because we had to
prepare we had to ready ourselves all for a test that had 3rd grade questions
on it. It irritated me made me feel like real school wasn't important anymore
because it was just so simple and childish. The only good thing it provided for
me was the fact that my senior and junior years I got to attend school a few
hours later and sleep in because only freshmen and sophomores had to take it.
Teachers talked about it as though it were something that would
determine the rest of our lives but then again they say that about a lot of
things. I didn't enjoy taking the TAAS I found it boring trite and again at a
child's level.
I didn't enjoy the extended amount of time given either since we were
treated as though we were in jail at the time. Only one person at a time could
go into the bathroom no talking until everyone was finished! And we weren't
aloud to even read to pass the time. Talk about approaching the edge of
insanity. For those of us who finished it was hell when there was that one
person who was still working. Not that I am blaming him or her just saying that
we all were punished for him taking so long. Again I reiterate the fact that we
were all treated like children in a prison! I would never want to relive that
experience again and no it didn't prepare me for college or anything. If all I
needed to know for college was on that test than I should have walked right out
of third grade and into college. If anything I say we need to do more preparing
for the SAT's and less time prepping for TAAS. About 90% of our time throughout
junior high and high school was focusing for TAAS. Then about halfway into our
junior year . . . it was time to focus on the SAT'S! What a horrible way to end
high school to have prepped for such an easy test and then have another test
creep up on you.
Anyway that's just my opinion (and everyone else's who chatted with me
after those agonizing tests)

I hated the TAAS! I feel sorry for those who have to take the new TAAS
because I think it will be harder than the one I took my sophmore. I do not
know what it proved. Another stupid test is the TASP. That is so stupid. You
promote everyone to go to college but you give them a test to get into college
then if you do not pass them you give them class that really do not count with
teachers who are so stupid. Test is just measures what you can do in one day. I
made great grades in high school and now I am having to take a TASP math class
because on that day I did not do very well. I was in NHS honors and AP classes
I do not think I got there because I was dumb!

I have been in public schooling since kindergarden. The only time when
I was in private school was my high school. Yet I still grow up studying for
the TAAS test. I took it in middle school and I placed in the average mean. But
when I went to high school I had to take the Standford Placement test and I did
alright as well. I have been practicing and taking the SAT and ACT for the past
two years. So as you can see I have quite some background in taking tests.

I have been taking TAAS since I can remember. And the whole time the
test never really changed. I think I could have taken the tenth grade test when
I was in elementary school and still have passed. A lot of time in school was
spent teaching TAAS which really didn't need teaching at all. Even the years
when I wasn't required to take the test my teachers still took time to
“prepare” us. I never really took TAAS seriously because it wasn't challenging
at all. I earned honorable recognition almost every year and I didn't even try.
I didn't learn anything from TAAS it was just a waste of valuable learning
time. The worst part was that the school's were more concerned with the outcome
of TAAS than any of the students.

I have been taking TAAS tests since I was in elementary school so by
the time I had reached high school TAAS testing was very repetitive of every
year before. In our English classes we spent a good deal of time becoming
familiar with the writing section of the TAAS as well as other sections that
corresponded with our English class. After writing paper after paper the
process became dull and dreadful. I was glad when the actual TAAS came around
so that I would be able to perform the skills that would allow me to completely
pass the TAAS. When the time came around to receive our scores I was
overwhelmed with relief that I would never have to prepare and take the TAAS
again.

I have lived in the state of Texas my whole life and attended the same
school district the entire time. I started taking the TAAS test in the 3rd
grade. I took the test constantly every year preparing for the main TAAS test
which I had to pass my sophomore year (10th grade) to graduate from high
school. If I didn't succed I had the chance to take it over again my junior
year (11th grade) and if I still didn't pass then again my senior year (12th
grade year).
The TAAS test is a test in which you test your skills in math reading
and writing. The writing part consist of grammar and punctuation multiple
choice questions. It also consist of an essay in which you are given a topic
and you must write about it. The TAAS test was not at the top of my list when I
had to take it in the 10th grade. I didn't stress over the test because every
year when I took the test before I was always scoring one of the highest test
scores. I was mainly concerned about learing more and more in all my classes.
By the time the test came around it seemed like nothing or me to pass. When I
decided to join one of the harderst classes I have ever taken my junior year I
learned then that the TAAS test was under-rated. The test is constructed from
things we learned our 8th grade year and have continued to build on year after
year. In this class (pre-cal/physics) we always talked about the test because
it is has a major impact of all texan students. My class continued on my senior
year as well but this time it was Physics 2/Calculus but we got into more
detail because the test changed to the TASK and is no longer the TAAS. The TASK
is a test in which it has more sections to review and test over.
